Setting it up

  1. Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the app. It will tell you whether the notice is actually showing.
  3. Select Turn it on in your theme. This opens your theme editor on the App embeds panel.
  4. Switch on EU guarantee notice, then Save.

Return to the app and it should now say the notice is showing. That check reads your live theme, so it reflects what shoppers actually see. On product pages the notice appears as a card under your Add to cart button, and in the cart under the Checkout button, with no theme editing.

Common problems

The app says the notice is not showing, but I installed it

Installing an app and enabling its embed are two separate steps in Shopify. Follow step 3 above. This is the single most common cause of a store believing it is compliant when it is not, which is exactly why the app checks.

I enabled it but the app still says it is off

The check reads your published theme. If you enabled it on a draft or a duplicate theme, it will not count until that theme is published. Confirm you edited the live one.

I want it to look different, or somewhere else

In the theme editor, under App embeds, open EU guarantee notice. Display switches between a card, a text link, and the notice always visible (Pro); you can also set the text size and colour, or choose a floating link or the footer instead of the automatic placement. For an exact spot of your own, open the template, select Add block, and choose EU guarantee (inline).

I cannot see the notice under Add to cart

Some themes build the product form in an unusual way. When the app cannot find it, the notice still shows, as a small link in the bottom corner, so you are never left without it. Write to [email protected] with your theme's name and we will make it land under the button.

The wording is not in my shopper's language

The notice follows the storefront language a shopper is browsing in. If your shop publishes only one language, everyone sees that one. Shoppers on a language outside the EU's 24 see the English notice, which is permitted: the obligation follows the seller, not the shopper.

Can I change the notice's design or colours?

No, and no other app can either. The Commission's guidelines forbid altering the border or inner separator, changing colours, applying filters, and distorting or separating its elements. You can change the card or link text around it, its size on the page, and where it sits, which is what the settings offer.

What this app is not

Clearmark displays the notice required of sellers. It is not legal advice. Whether the obligation applies to your business, and whether your overall setup meets it, is your decision. If you are unsure, speak to a lawyer in the market you sell into.
